Raleigh, N.C. (January 4, 2021) – Smith Debnam announced today that four Smith Debnam attorneys were named “North Carolina’s 2021 Legal Elite” in Business North Carolina Magazine, a listing of the state’s top attorneys in their respective fields. The Smith Debnam attorneys named are Andrew Bullard for Estate Planning; Byron Saintsing for Construction Law; Connie Carrigan for Employment Law; and Lynn McNally for Family Law. This year marks the 20th “Legal Elite” class. Fewer than 4% of the state’s 28,000 active attorneys made this year’s list.
Once a year, Business North Carolina distributes ballots to active members of the North Carolina Bar Association who reside in the state. Voters are asked one question: “Of the Tar Heel lawyers whose work you have observed firsthand, whom would you rate among the current best in these categories?” Voters are not allowed to vote for themselves and may only select members of their own firms if they also select out-of-firm lawyers in the same categories, with the out-of-firm votes weighted more heavily. He focuses on matters involving construction law, complex business litigation, and commercial creditor bankruptcy in his practice. Saintsing has written and lectured on many topics about construction and equipment leasing, including editing materials on North Carolina’s adoption of Article 2A of the Uniform Commercial Code.
Connie Carrigan is a partner in the firm, with a practice concentration in Business Law. Her focus is on assisting clients with employment law issues, business advice and litigation, construction law, equipment leasing, and creditor bankruptcy. Carrigan has lectured on topics ranging from employment law, bankruptcy, and equipment leasing to construction law.
