Raleigh, N.C. (June 4, 2021) – Joseph A. Davies, a partner and member of the construction law practice group at Smith Debnam, has received his superior court mediation certification from the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and is now certified to conduct superior court mediations and clerk of court mediations.
Davies represents construction companies and small business owners in lease negotiations and complex litigation matters. His clients include general contractors and subcontractors, as well as property managers, landlords, commercial tenants, equipment rental companies, and building materials supply companies. To earn certification, the Dispute Resolution Commission requires that applicants complete 40-hours of Mediated Settlement Conference training and two mediation observations. In addition, attorney applicants must be a member in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar, have at least five years of legal practice experience, and demonstrate good moral character.
In 2019, Davies earned recognition for his outstanding professional excellence in private practice in the inaugural edition of the Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch, one of the most respected attorney peer-review publications in the legal profession.
Davies earned his B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Richmond and his J.D. with honors from Duke University School of Law. He is licensed to practice before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and all federal and state courts in North Carolina.
