Mangum, a distinguished family law attorney, has been selected for induction into the 2023 North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society. This recognition is awarded by the North Carolina Pro Bono Resource Center (PBRC) for his exemplary contribution of over 50 hours of pro bono legal services in 2023.
Mangum’s extensive experience, which includes over 16 years on the District Court bench and roles as both Wake County Chief District Court Judge and District Attorney, underscores his commitment to justice and community service. His dedication to pro bono work is part of a broader commitment to address the legal needs of individuals who are unable to afford representation.

The PBRC, a program of the North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Commission, initiated its first voluntary reporting process in 2017 to foster a community of service among legal professionals. The 2023 integration of this reporting into the CLE reporting form, in partnership with the North Carolina State Bar, has significantly increased participation, highlighting the crucial role of pro bono work in the legal profession.
Mangum is also noted for his educational contributions, teaching at Meredith College and providing Continuing Legal Education across North Carolina. His previous accolades include the prestigious President’s Award for Excellence from the Wake County Bar and the Old North State Award from Governor Roy Cooper in 2024.
